God Exists!

I would first like to apologize for the title to this post - but I could not think of anything better. Maybe you would understand as you read on.I have often come across people who say God does not exist. I have also come across a few people who ask me to prove to them that God Exists. And how can I possibly forget yet another category – those who say My God – or to be more precise only the God I believe in exists and the others are fictitious!
What surprises me the most is that the human race can actually question the existence of the supernatural power- that too when the fact stands true that everything that one looks at, feels, does or experiences has a direct correlation to GOD!
Which Human being would have thought of creating a world as beautiful as the one we live in. Whether at work or play, coming up with innovations is not everyone’s cup of tea. But at the same time, even the most creative person on Earth would not possess 1/10000000 ….. of the creativity that God possesses –
which enables him to give the gift of life to Soo many human beings, animals….living beings – who are unique, look different, possess different characteristics, and have something different in store for them in life….. We notice that new born babies tend to smile in their sleep. It is such a beautiful sight – I have heard that babies smile because they are able to experience and feel the presence of God – when I think of this I am at times envious of them. A baby has no ill feelings, and is pure at heart – and so can easily feel the presence of God. But why is it that as it grows older, things tend to change?? That is the basic problem. The pursuit for materialistic happiness has made us so crazy that we have forgotten that one person who cares for us and loves us irrespective of how we are.
All I can say is that I feel sorry for those who think God does not exist and I hope and pray for them to realize the truth.
I read the following quote which I would like everyone to think about:

Once you accept the existence of God - however you define him however you explain your relationship to him - then you are caught forever with his presence in the centre of all things. - Morris West

For those who want proof – I have just one line – Open your eyes wide and look around, the proof is all around you.
Coming to the last category – I feel sad for those people, who like to discriminate and fight over the name of religion. Every religion may have its share of Do’s and Don’ts, but I firmly believe that God is one, and people should try to attain Moksha by virtue of honesty, sincerity and good deeds, rather than pointing fingers and smirking at what others say or believe. Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion, and I think rather than questioning and squabbling about it, it would be nice if people to follow what they believe in and not create rifts in the name of Religion.

hmm.. a post with sincerely personal thoughts. There are people for whom God doesnt exist. There are people who want proof. and there are millions for whom 'ONLY THEIR GOD' exists. how about people who do not know whether God exists or not!

And how can we define God? Is he (first assumption here, that God is a form that could be called as 'he') the creator? or destroyer? or the 'kartha'? Is God a divine person? or are there other manifestations, apart from those idols and symbols? Can a thought be called as God? say, a very noble thought! or can a honest noble action be called as God?

Your post triggers so many thoughts that have been part of my functioning/existentiality since many years.

Think.Enquire.Probe.Introspect.Discover.Know. This cycle goes on...

Morris West's quote is a good find. I think the debate on whether God invented Man or viceversa is never ending, but what is more important is... God is necessary. We have do a great deal, by acknowledging that and by trying to function in a way such that there is goodness and harmony, of thoughts and in life.thats a good enough prayer/worship/ritual, if i may say so.

Sorry for blogging(instead of commenting) here, your post triggered thoughts.

god is a word given by us lesser mortals to a mysterious mass of energy whom noone has ever comprehended. We pray, we beg, we thank, and we sometimes even fight with it... and i guess most of us will agree that this mass of energy makes us aware of its presence in one way or the other.
its for us too understand and most imp to believe...u could choose ur own name for it...god or nethng for that matter. its all in our mind, that part of our cerebrum that is "mysteriously" enebled to think, feel and decide!
one very famous hindi saying puts across my opinion bout god!
"mano to yeh gangajal hai.....na mano toh bahta paani"!!!

Wow...am pleased to see comments coming in! Did not quite expect people to relate to this topic. Nevertheless am happy! :)
Aakarsh - As regards people who do not know whether God exists - They will eventually form an opinion on that.
Secondly I think we Cannot reduce God to mere action/ manifestations/ idols. I think at the end of the day he is there in spirit and it is unfair to reduce him to something as small as an idol or a thought.
Saumya - the mass of energy is something i can vaguely associate with...but yes will surely share my thoughts when they get more concrete.
Cheers! :)

Saumya, the concept of supreme or mysterious form of energy or many other such interpretations are different concepts or abstractions we have developed to understand that which is beyond us and more within the context of 'how did all this world come about?', which is like exploring the source of creation. I think Gayatri's post was more about the concept/entity that is 'running the show' rather than how did it get created. And i guess her stress was more on the entity that is running the show within the realm of human actions, choices and experiences.the essence of your comment very much stands and that quote was interesting.Whether it is Ganga or flowing water, it is just a label.but whether that Ganga or flowing water is doing something to you (humanity) is what that one needs to explore.

Gayatri - the belief systems of human beings are mostly a resultant of various factors such as the environment they are brought up in, experiences, inclinations, choices, upbringing, sensibilities etc. There are people who switch from atheism(which i think is another religion, though they deny it..but that is not pertinent here) to theism and even viceversa. I have also seen many who oscillate between these two schools of thought, without condemning either of the practices.Whatever opinion they form, do we have any method to ascertain that they form, at a particular instant of time, is the realized truth?

Secondly, there is nothing like 'reducing' God, because God, as such means, that which is beyond. None of human actions,i think, can be used to increase or decrease the significance of God.And if we believe that God is everywhere, all encompassing, then is there anything small or big for God? forms, sizes and dimensions are just measurement systems (science) invented by man for his regular functioning. If God is all encompassing, then i think the energy associated with the belief of God or the energy associated with Cosmos or energy contained in a thought must all have the same source.I think idol worship came about on the same thought, that human beings relate to a form firstly, to be able to imagine, understand and comprehend anything. a form or image or symbol etc.although my belief systems involves less of idols,i cannot undermine the need for humans to practise idol worship. My conception, though abstract, stretches beyond into other entities, such as music or thought or actions or any other such thing, which makes a human being feel better.I think that if God is all encompassing, then God is in everything that has positivity associated with it.

....Hmmm...Hi Amma....hope you will find my this comment in good spirit...well If a person opposes even the possibility of there being a God, then any evidence can be rationalized or explained away. It is like if someone refuses to believe that people have walked on the moon, then no amount of information is going to change their thinking. Photographs of astronauts walking on the moon, interviews with the astronauts, moon rocks...all the evidence would be worthless, because the person has already concluded that people cannot go to the moon.

& yes you talked about babies that as they grow up the debate starts... so better we go beyond this & if babies doesn't passes through the established beliefs, customs & rituals then babies will remain in their purest form..to be more precise about it...well.... If you don't carry the old you will find life absolutely new at each step. Life is new, only the mind is old; and if you look through the mind, life also looks like a repetition, a bore.

Mind means your past, accumulated experiences, knowledge and everything. Mind means that through which you have passed, but which you are still hanging on to. Mind is a hangover, dust from the past covering your mirror-like consciousness. Then when you look through it everything becomes distorted.

Purity simply means an uncontaminated state of mind, where only your consciousness is and nothing else. Nothing else really enters into your consciousness, but if you hanker to possess, that hankering contaminates you. If you don't want to possess anything, you become fearless. Then even death is a beautiful experience...

There is nothing like ur god or my god.
It is not that a person should go to a temple, church or perform expensive PUJAS.
We give more importance to the "GOD" thing, and less importance to what he/she actually wanted us to do.
He just wanted us to do out duties as we are supposed to do,not think ill of others, not cheat any body etc..
if we follow these,it doesn't really matter which god we believe in.

I have one question

What if a person is sincere and honest and still doesn't believe in God?

The Buddha was such a person. The man who created a revolution by denying the existence of God. But yet he was the most pious, honest, sincere man in history. So will people like those attain moksha as you call it?

You see all the beautiful things around you and say only God can create it. Now tell me why there are so many ugly things around? Poverty, hunger, disease, war, hatred etc. Did God create all these too? If he did then it seems he is a cynical person who enjoys suffering of creatures. In that case how can we call him God?

Aham Brahmasmi...this is a mahavakya in the upanishads which sankara interpreted in the advaitic form. But you know how I view this mahavakya? I feel passively says we are the creators of God...our mind created God

Just trying to be the devils advocate :) I am a theist myself.
